Sunday at the Fincastle Pokemon Gym, the Gym Leaders started down the road to 200 challenges by fielding challenges # 101, 102, 103 and 104. Gym Leader Austin defended the fire badge in a close battle that went to the 3rd game before completion. Gym Leader Logan successfully defended a challenge for the darkness badge. Gym Leader Marthe defended a challenge for the electric badge in a battle that also went to the 3rd game. In the last challenge of the day, Tessa Y. took on Gym Leader Joel’s grass deck. As Chris did in challenge # 100, she chose not to go for type advantage with her challenge. Tessa challenged grass with grass.
In game 1, both players set up decently, but the momentum that Tessa’s deck builds overwhelmed the Gym Leader deck for the win. Game 2 went the other direction. The speed of the Gym deck netted Joel the win on turn 2. Game 3 began almost exactly like game 2, save the energy necessary for the Gym leader to pull off another turn 2 win. This gave Tessa the turn necessary to set up and the game was hers from that point on. While most grass decks either focus on healing/tanking or speed, Tessa has created one of the most powerful attacking grass decks that the Gym Leaders have ever seen. Congratulations to Tessa for earning the grass gym badge. Tessa joins Tyler D. as the only other trainer at the Gym to win 3 badges.
