Congratulations Hunter, V2.0!

It has been a busy week for the Gym Leaders with spring sports in full swing and our 2nd ever pre-release in Fincastle fast approaching.  This is the first chance we’ve had to update the exciting weekend we had last Sunday at the Gym.  If you ever wonder what happens when the Fincastle Pokemon Gym takes a 2 week holiday break, the answer is this…. our trainers return ready to play.  The Gym Leaders got right into fielding challenges this past Sunday and our trainers had us on the run all day.  At the end of the day, the first ever Darkness badge was earned by one of trainers.

Gym Leaders Joel and Marthe fielded challenges for the Psychic badge and the Grass badge, two challenges that demonstrated how tricky the Psychic types can be and how evil “trainer-lock” combined with special conditions can be in the hands of Grass types.  Next up, Brycen F, a trainer who is definitely starting to command a strong understanding for the game and play at a high level, took on Gym Leader Joel’s Fighting deck.  Brycen blew the Gym Leader away in the first game and then lost a fairly quick game 2.  In the deciding game 3, both players matched the others moves as the prize count reached 2 to 1 in Brycen’s favor.  However, a well-timed “Juniper” got the Gym Leader the “Catcher” he needed to take out an EX and get the last 2 prizes.  Brycen played a game worthy of most Masters tournament tables and Gym Leader Joel knows that he’ll be waiting again as soon as he earns another challenge.

Gym Leader Logan dusted off his Darkness deck to field a challenge from another one of our up and coming Seniors.  Much like the Fighting challenge, Hunter H and Gym Leader Logan split the opening games and had to go to a decisive game 3.  However, unlike Brycen and Joel’s challenge, game 3 went the challenger’s way very quickly.  Hunter set up his first attacker quickly and was able to run through the game quickly as Logan could not get set up.  Speed is key in the game at the moment.  Hunter seized that advantage and ran with it, earning the first-ever Darkness type badge awarded at the Gym.  The victory is Hunter’s 2nd in gym leader challenges as he now holds both the Darkness and Grass type badges.  Great job, Hunter!.

I guess it is fitting for the Darkness badge to go out on the weekend before the pre-release for the Dark Explorers set.  The set will offer some new-found power to Dark decks and some awesome new EX’s that will plug-in nicely to many decks.  The Gym Leaders are very excited about the event.  As a quick reminder, it is at the Community Center on Saturday with registration beginning at 1pm.  Check the previous post for more details.  See you at the Pre-Release on Saturday and Sunday at the Gym!
