The Fincastle Pokemon Gym is hosting a Video Game Premier Tournament on Sunday (May 17th). Registration will be from 1 – 1:30 PM. Entry to the tournament is $5. Play will begin shortly after registration closes and will be a “swiss” tournament (meaning you’re not out if you lose a match). The number of rounds and top cut will be determined by attendance. We will hold league at our normal time. If the tournament is still going on, feel free to find someone to battle. The Gym Leaders will be available to help you or battle once the VG event is done. Here are a few reminders of VG rules and pokemon that can/can’t be used.
VG Premier events follow the same rules as all other Play!Pokemon Video Game events – all the way up to Nationals and Worlds. Players must use either Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. Competitors place 6 pokemon of their choice into their “Battle Box”, and then select 4 of the 6 to use in a Flat Battle (pokemon are leveled down to level 50). Each pokemon must be different and each pokemon may hold an item. No duplicate items may be used. The only banned item is the “Soul Dew, an item intended for Latios or Latias.
None of the following Legendary Pokemon may be used: Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, and Diancie. All pokemon must have the blue pentagon in their summary screen and be either caught or hatched in X/Y or in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
When you arrive, you will need to complete a team list to document the 6 pokemon in your Battle Box, the items they hold and the moves that they know. When you finish your form, just bring it to Gym Leader Marthe at the computer with your $5 entry fee to complete your registration. Make sure that your game has the most recent updated version. To check your game, go to the start screen shown above. Be sure your game says Ver. 1.4! If it does not, then connect to the Internet and re-open the game. It will prompt you to download and install the appropriate update. You will need to do this prior to Sunday, as the WiFi connection at the library does not allow the pokemon VG to connect to the internet.
Everyone get your teams prepared and be ready for a fun event. If you plan on playing, don’t forget that this event is earlier than league. We don’t want you to miss the beginning of the tournament. Until then, see you at the Gym!
