The Fincastle Pokemon Gym is hosting its first League Challenge of the 2016-2017 season this Sunday, September 4, at the Fincastle Library. This event will also be our 1st event to use the new Standard Format, as the 2016 rotation is official as of today. The Standard Format is now officially Primal Clash-on, meaning that cards legal for these events must be from Primal Clash and newer sets (up to Steam Siege at the moment). If you need any help sorting out what is legal and what is not, follow the link to our rotation article. Don’t forget that with each new season, the cut-off for age divisions changes, meaning that many of you may “age up” into the next age group. Juniors are those born in 2006 or later, Seniors are those born between 2002 and 2005 and Masters are those born in 2001 and earlier. Here is a little more info on what you need for this Sunday.
As for this Sunday (future events will be at normal league time of 3:00p), we are locked into this schedule. Registration will be from 1:00pm to 1:30pm and play will begin shortly after. There is a $5 entry fee for all players. Prizes, which include both promo award cards and Steam Siege booster packs, will go out to the top 4 in each group. Championship Points are, of course, based on attendance and we have not seen anything official from Pokemon yet (not that they ever wait until the last minute for anything………..), but we assume that point structure will follow that used last season.
All those planning on competing need to bring a deck list (easier to fill one out using this program), damage counters and a “randomizer” (dice or coin). We will have blank lists available if needed, but prefer the pre-printed versions. You may sleeve your deck in any solid color or any Pokemon sleeves that are in good condition, or even play without sleeves if you prefer. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our plan for future events is to hold a League Challenge on the 1st Sunday of each month. If other Play!Pokemon events (such as League Cups, Regionals and Continentals) conflict with future Challenges, we will post that info as soon as we can. We also plan to start all events after this Sunday, 9/4, at the same time as league so that hopefully more of you can make those tournaments.
League play this Sunday will begin at our normal time (3:00pm). If the tournament is still going on, feel free to come on in a play until we complete the event. We look forward our 1st look at the new format. See you this Sunday at the Gym.
